My Judicial Philosophies

Protection of Rights

brucelee_edited.jpg

Everyone who enters the judicial system deserves to be treated fairly and equally.  Founding principles such as unlimited opportunities, second chances, adequate resources, and equality are essential in building and maintaining a judicial system that works. I fight each and every day to ensure that the community is advancing towards meeting these founding principles.

Fair and Equal Justice

This particular issue has been increasingly gaining coverage all over the world. Why exactly? It is an issue that needs to be a focal point within the judicial system. I  am pushing for fairness and equality in the judicial system by treating everyone equally without regards to race, color, and socioeconomic background. Learn more and join the cause today.

Second Chance

I am truly passionate about this issue, especially for defendants who are charged with non-violent crimes. I support Restorative Justice programs and Specialty programs such as mental health and drug treatment that will still hold the defendant accountable but get them the help they need to break the cycle and stay out of jail.

JUSTICE MUST BE SWIFT AND FAIR

I am fully aware of the burden and restraints that defendants face when they are charged with a crime and on victims who want to see that justice is served. In many cases, their lives are basically placed on hold until their cases are resolved. It is imperative that cases are disposed of quickly and efficiently to prevent extensive restraints on the lives of defendants and victims. As a prosecutor working this has been an area of concern for me and still is as a Judge. I am committed to disposing of cases quickly and efficiently while ensuring that defendants rights are preserved and both parties have an opportunity to be heard.

JUSTICE MUST BE BLIND AND IMPARTIAL

The Scales of Justice symbolizes that justice should be blind and represents the fair distribution of law, with no influence of bias, privilege or corruption.  Defendants are often tossed into the balancing of evidence and arguments for and against the case and then the judge checks the balance and announced the decision. Decisions that in many instances have a profound effect on the lives of the people involved.

This is why it is important to have a judge that is competent and is learned of the law and have the ability to apply it with knowledge, fairness, and impartiality. I am THAT judge.
